See bulletin Video It seems about this time every year our household comes down with some sort of cold, flu, or sinus infection that makes its way through our family. We all know getting sick isn't fun. In fact, we dread it. But in and out of homes and hospitals and shaking many hands, one way or another I have come to expect it. I'm reminded of the times I've been asked, "Did Jesus ever get sick?" Luke 4:1-2 says, "Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry." There isn't any clear and cut evidence from the Bible that Jesus got the flu or some other kind of whatever sickness bugs flew around in His days, but we see that Luke records that Jesus' body was like ours. Jesus got hungry. Jesus knows what it is like to be physically weak. He had amazingly fasted for forty days in the wilderness, all the while be tempted by the devil! Though the Bible only records three temptations, it isn't hard to imagine that the devil was constantly trying to get Jesus to trespass His Father's commandments! When the Son of God, Jesus our High Priest, took on our flesh the Bible records in Hebrews 4:15, "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." When my family and I are sick, there are lots of temptations to get upset with the situation, each other, even at God! What a great reminder that Jesus can sympathize with us in our infirmities. And not just sympathize, He can and will help us! Go to Him for strength. Go to Him and His Word to resist the devil's temptations. Go to Him for true rest in His loving forgiveness of sins and promise of eternal rest and salvation! May we ever hunger for this spiritual food that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ alone gives!
