See bulletin Video You can practice hundreds of different plays, spend hours in the weight room and run as many 40-yard dashes as you like, but if your nutrition isn't on point, you'll struggle as a football player. We expect professional football players are properly fueled for the big game with enough nutrient-dense, energy-providing foods to ensure they’ll perform at maximum levels and be able to endure when it counts! Is the Christian faith any different? The Apostle Paul lovingly warned the Christians in Corinth why the Lord’s Supper was to be received both humbly and frequently saying, “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread” (1 Cor. 10:16-17). Make no mistake, Paul’s encouragement still applies to us today! Do you view taking the Lord’s Supper as essential nourishment for your spiritual endurance? You should! Professional football is a joke compared to the sinful enemies and temptations we face on a daily basis! “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” That’s intense! We fight against our sinful flesh and a demonic world we can’t even see! That’s why Paul goes on, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:12-13). Our battle against sin isn’t just some game, it’s a battle for souls! It’s a battle for an eternal victory –but thanks be to God a victory already won for us by our MVP, God’s Son, Jesus Christ! Like an exhausted, thirsty football player desperately looks for that hydration on the sidelines, let us look forward to every chance we get to come to our Savior’s Table for this “cup of blessing” Paul speaks of… which gives us the proper fuel and nourishment to endure down to last seconds of our time on this earthly field! See you on the “sidelines” tomorrow at the Lord’s Table, for hands down, the best nourishment in this world.
