See bulletin Charlie Brown's famous line lives on. While the kids were on spring break this week I helped take them and some of their cousins to a movie. One of the previews had Charlie Brown's oxymoron quote of disappointment... "Good grief!" But is there really such a thing as "good grief?" As we walk with Jesus and His disciples in the Word we see much of the grief that Jesus endured wasn't from the hostility of His enemies, but from the unbelief of His own disciples. In Matthew chapter 17 Jesus reveals the lack of faith His disciples had in their doubting of God's power and presence that was with them. But Jesus teaches them a valuable lesson amazing them once again with not just His power, but His Word! Are we any different than Jesus' first disciples? We too are tempted daily to underestimate our Lord's All Mighty hand in our lives! We too cause Him grief and shame as we dishonor Him with our selfish and hurtful words and actions towards those we love most! But it is our grief for this sin and disobedience that leads us to Christ's cross. Repentance for sin... IS a good grief to have, because the Spirit of God teaches us our need for a Savior! That Savior from sin fully endured all our grief and guilt on that Good Friday we look forward to celebrating every year! What a blessing it is to see the wrath of God was satisfied in Christ's payment for our sins! What a blessing it is to see His victory and His gift of our eternal life! Let's read, hear, and recognizing our Lord's love for us and rejoicing in it in every opportunity we have!
