See bulletin When I was eleven or twelve, I was biking with my friend through a subdivision that was being built. One house had the walls and roof up and most of the interior studs and stairs completed, but no doors or windows were yet installed. We investigated, and my friend began to climb around inside. Some walkers must have seen us because after about 15 minutes the police arrived. What excuse could I give? Even if it was my friend’s idea, I was in the house. I was trespassing. I was guilty. My dad drove over to pick me up, so I knew I was about to be punished. I was united with my friend in the trespassing. Despite our own trespasses, the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:13 about our unity with Christ showing that the “body is the Lord’s and the Lord for the body.” We weren't given our body to trespass (to cross the line of) God's Law and commandments. Like my friend and I had for the home under construction, our trespasses daily reveal the often carelessness we have for God's Word and God's property (our bodies). Not to mention how we have depreciated our earthly parents good name by our actions. Don't our actions affect our Savior's name in the same way? But Paul writes on in 1 Corinthians 6:17 "But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him." The blessing of being united with our Savior Jesus Christ is not a free pass to live however we want and to carelessly sin and trespass against Him. Rather, being joined to the Lord by faith in His work of redemption means having our trespasses paid for and pardoned by Him! It means we can rejoice now that we have been set free, not to go trespass again and again, but glorify our Heavenly Father's name until He calls us to our eternal home! Sometimes we have to learn the hard lessons to really see and understand the joy and peace we have in being united with Christ!
