Aims and Purposes
of Our School

Although the Lord has not instituted a certain form or agency of Christian education and training (Christian Day School, Saturday School, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School,etc.), the Christian Day School stands approved among us as the most effective means of fulfilling our Christian responsibility toward our children. Christian training applied to the child's whole life and learning, as carried out in the Christian Day School is commanded by God.

Luther Memorial Church has therefore established and maintains a Christian Day School to aid parents in carrying out the Lord's command: "...bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4) We are convinced that our daily program of Christian instruction provides faithfully for the eternal welfare of our children, presents a guide for Christian conduct and life, contains that which is considered necessary in a curriculum of elementary education, and supplies the only proper motive for using knowledge, skills, and abilities to God's glory, the spreading of His Kingdom, and the service of mankind.

This Christian education will have reached its final and ultimate goal when we, together with our children, will be Christ's eternally. Such an endeavor deserves no less than our continued and wholehearted support and prayer.

The Education Program of Luther Memorial School aims to have all the Children "taught of the Lord".

• Taught not only to pray and to be religious, but to know the name of the Lord, their Redeemer and Savior;
  10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. • Taught not only to add and subtract and count earthly treasures, but to place value on the treasure in heaven;
  21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. (Matthew 19:21)
  
  

• Taught not to laud the achievements of men, but to see in history the guiding hand of the Lord as He build His kingdom;
  18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (Matthew 28:18)
  
  

• Taught not only the scientific marvels of space and space travel, but also that Satan fell from heaven;
  17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. (Luke 10:17,18)
  
  

• Taught not only to write legibly, but to know that their names are written in heaven;
  20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. (Luke 10:20)
  
  

• Taught not only that books contain man's accumulated wisdom, but that God used the written word to tell us His unchangeable Truth;
  17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17)
  
  

• Taught not only to sing in melodious harmony, but to let the heart make melody unto the Lord;
  19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; (Ephesians 5:19)
  
  

• Taught not only to be patriotic citizens of our great country, but to prepare for eternal citizenship in the Kingdom of Glory;
  14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. (Hebrews 13:14)
  
  

• Taught not only to lead a good life, but that all our righteousness is as filthy rags;
  6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6)
  
  

• Taught not only to seek knowledge, but that the foolishness of God is wiser than men;
  25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (I Corinthians 1:25)
  
  

• Taught not only to value learning, but that he fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
  10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)

 

May the Lord cause us all - parents, children, teachers, and members of Luther Memorial - to grow in the knowledge and understanding of the nature and value of Christian Education.
